Construction of the façade for 14-storey tower blocks in Villaverde (Madrid-Spain) maintaining the balance between saving and efficiency.
Cielo de Villaverde residential complex, 14 storey tower blocks
Madrid · Sistema GHAS
Challenge
- To build the façade on the tower blocks at height with an affordable but efficient façade system, both in regard to mechanical performance, energy saving and durability.
Solution
The GHAS System façade solution meant there could be a continuous cavity with insulation, avoiding any thermal bridges where it joins the structure. In this case, the total height of the façade was divided into two sections of 7 floors each, with an intermediate support running throughout the height of the building.
The GHAS system uses calculation models defined in the CTE building code and which are endorsed by the granted DAU document. This permits calculating the dimensions of the walls for different horizontal wind forces, taking into account the increase in value of these effects on tall buildings.
